NRECA International Programs

The original purpose of NRECA’s overseas involvement was to share lessons learned in the electrification of the rural United States with developing countries around the world.  NRECA International provides comprehensive training programs in all aspects of utility operations and management to ensure that local institutions can effectively and efficiently operate and administer a functioning and economically viable utility.

NRECA International has developed and implemented rural electrification programs in over 42 countries resulting in increased agricultural productivity, millions of new jobs in micro and small enterprises, and higher incomes and quality of life for more than 100 million people. NRECA International operates field offices in the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Guatemala, Southern Sudan, Bangladesh and Philippines, and maintains its home office at NRECA’s headquarters in Arlington, VA.

About NRECA International Foundation

NRECA International Foundation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, is a charitable organization dedicated to the mission of bringing electricity to the world, one village at a time.

The organization is supported solely through voluntary donations, with more than 300 cooperatives and many private organizations contributing time, money and materials to dozens of projects in several countries.

The NRECA International Foundation also partners with NRECA International, Ltd. and member cooperatives to implement rural electrification projects worldwide.  It provides support through its core of expert volunteers that assist with the construction and maintenance of electric distribution systems, and in training of the local utility staff (board of directors, linemen safety, co-op management, etc.).
