Example Header
Northeastern is dedicated to delivering safe and reliable electric service to our members. Our rate structure is designed to cover the cooperative’s power supply and delivery costs fairly and transparently.
Important information for commercial rates. Most commercial rates are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about the specific commercial rate for your business, please contact us.

Residential Rates
Example of Residential Rates
Most homes have a single-phase service. The below estimation is an example of one home with one meter. The table below illustrates how residential bills are calculated. This example is based on one month where 1,000 kwh (kilowatt hours) were used, which is approximately our member average.
Single phase Residential (Rate schedule 101)
Usage | Rate | Cost | ||
Monthly Service Charge | $25.00 | $25.00
Energy Charge for first block of kWh | 500 | kWh | $0.120331 | $60.17 |
Energy Charge for remaining kWh | 500 | kWh | $0.101597 | $50.80 |
PJM Cost | 1000 | kWh | $0.019743 | $19.74 |
Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) | 1000 | kWh | -$0.000640 | -$0.64 |
Subtotal | $155.07 | |||
Indiana State Tax | 7% | $10.85
Total Bill | $165.92 |
Residential Prepaid Rates
Example of Residential Rates
Since prepaid accounts can be paid at any time, the below estimation is based on 29 days of energy usage.
Usage | Rate | Cost | ||
Service Charge per day | 29 | days | $1.50 | $43.50 |
Energy Charge for total kWh | 1000 | kWh | 0.100629 | $100.63 |

Summary of Terms
Service Charge
The service charge is a minimum amount each meter is charged monthly to cover a portion of the fixed costs Northeastern REMC incurs to have electric service available to your home or business.
These costs include substations, poles, power lines, transformers, meters, taxes, and administrative expenses.
Energy Charge
PJM Cost
PJM, the Pennsylvania, Jersey, Maryland Power Pool, is a regional transmission organization that coordinates the flow of electricity for over 61 million people across 13 states and D.C. Northeastern REMC and other Indiana utilities are required to belong to such organizations. This cost helps cover mandated participation and related charges.
PJM ensures enough power to meet demand, maintains grid reliability, and oversees the market to prevent manipulation. Electricity flows through PJM regardless of where it’s generated.
Power Cost Adjustment (PCA)
Northeastern REMC works hard to keep your electricity affordable, reliable, and consistent. But because the cost to buy power can change over time, a small adjustment may appear on your bill—this is called the Power Cost Adjustment, or PCA. The PCA reflects changes in the cost of electricity from our power supplier. It helps us keep energy costs steady and fair for all members. Depending on market conditions, this may appear as a small charge or credit on your bill. It’s not a fee and Northeastern REMC does not profit from it. Every dollar goes directly toward covering the cost of providing your power.
Miscellaneous Charges
Click the tab to learn more about additional charges, such as late fees, insufficient funds, or extra meter readings. While most members won’t encounter these charges, we’re here to help if you believe a fee has been applied in error. Please contact our member services team for assistance.
Late Payments
In the event that the current monthly billing is not paid on or before the stated due date, a late payment charge of ten percent (10%) for the first $3.00, plus three percent (3%) of the amount in excess of the first $3.00 will be added to the net bill. The gross amount due, as shown on the billing statement, includes the late payment charge.
Security Deposits
Disconnect/Reconnect/Collection Charges
Insufficient Funds
Meter Reading
Member False Call-Out Charge
If Northeastern personnel respond to a member call and discover the cause of the power outage is located on member’s side of the meter (e.g., tripped breaker, blown fuse, etc.), a charge of $110.00 during normal business hours and a charge of $195.00 after normal business hours will be assessed. Northeastern is not obligated to make repairs to the member’s equipment, which is located on member’s side of the meter.
Temporary Facilities Charge
New Service Fee
The new service fee is a one-time $500 charge for any new construction on the Northeastern system. This flat fee is charged for all new metered service points requiring new equipment installed at the location. The new construction service fee does not include other temporary or new member charges or fees. Additional charges may apply depending on the equipment that needs to be installed and the projected electrical use at the new location.
