Columbia City, IN – Northeastern REMC (NREMC), a member-owned electric cooperative serving six counties in Northeast Indiana, took part in the annual Co-Op Community Day on Friday, October 11. This initiative, which saw nearly 40 unique projects across Indiana, exemplifies how electric cooperatives leverage their resources and skills to address specific community needs and create lasting impact.
NREMC employees, ranging from lineworkers and engineers to accountants and executives, contributed their expertise to several local projects:
- Humane Society of Whitley County: In collaboration with Purdue Master Gardeners, NREMC staff tackled fall maintenance, cutting back overgrown areas and tidying the property line.
- Faith Christian Academy, Columbia City: The preschool playground received an upgrade, including a new swing set, rock area, fresh mulch, and a roofed structure for outdoor toy storage.
- LC Nature Park, Roanoke: An NREMC crew is scheduled to install an Osprey Nest tower to support local wildlife conservation efforts.
"Our commitment to the community goes beyond providing reliable electricity. Co-Op Community Day allows us to roll up our sleeves and make a real difference in the areas we serve," said Christopher Todd, Director, Marketing and Communications. “Supporting the local community is at the heart of everything we do,” he concluded.
Neighboring electric cooperatives also participated in Co-Op Community Day. Kosciusko REMC delivered meals to homebound senior citizens. Noble REMC worked on projects at three local nonprofit day care facilities.
