We hope this message finds you well and you are staying warm during these cold winter days.
It's obvious that everyone is using more electricity right now because of the cold temps, but what does that mean for Northeastern members amid warnings from other utility companies in the area?
PJM, the organization responsible for managing the electric grid in our region, has asked for the public's help in conserving electricity due to the soaring demand caused by the cold weather yesterday. They are asking consumers to reduce their electricity use, if health permits, from now until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow December 25. This will help to ensure that the electric grid remains stable and reliable for everyone. If we can all do a little to reduce that impact it will “certainly be enough” PJM spokeswoman Susan Buehler said in an interview. “It was much colder a lot quicker” than the grid operator had forecast, she said, with millions of people turning up heaters amid freezing temperatures. The grid in our region is built with plenty of reserve capacity, but it is also supporting many other states right now as well. We do not anticipate any issues at this time however conservation will go a long way toward ensuring that.
We understand that these are unusual circumstances, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to support the electric grid. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Thank you, and merry Christmas!
