It’s no secret that linework is physically demanding and incredibly tough. However, this necessary job must be done even in the most challenging conditions, and we don’t mean just weather conditions.
The ongoing mental toughness of a lineworker isn’t often talked about. Working with high voltage equipment takes specialized skills and experience. You quickly learn that the importance of thinking ahead and being prepared for anything could be the difference between life and death. There is no room for error or shortcuts.
Along with mental toughness, being a lineworker takes personal sacrifice. Ask any one of our linemen, and they can give you examples of the moments they’ve missed with their families, like birthday parties, baseball games, and dance recitals. Yet, they are willing to make these sacrifices to power our community. But why do they do this? Being a lineworker is more than a job to them. It’s who they are.
Despite the many challenges, Northeastern REMC’s lineworkers are committed to powering our local community. During severe weather events that bring major power outages, lineworkers are among the first ones called, and they don’t return until the job is done, often days later. That’s why the lineworker’s family is also dedicated to service. They understand that their service is absolutely essential to the life of our community.
On this Lineworker Appreciation Day, we hope you’ll join us in thanking all of the past and present Northeastern REMC lineworkers. We also want to recognize their families for supporting them. While lineworkers are the power behind your power, we also know that each lineworker has a powerful support system at home.
