The Christmas season is one of Northeastern's favorite times of the year as they demonstrate "Concern for Community". This is one of the founding principles of their cooperative. For the third consecutive year, Northeastern participated in Passages Inc's Walk of Trees in the historic lobby of the Clugston Senior Apartments in Columbia City. All of the Christmas trees are raffled off and proceeds from this event benefits low-moderate income senior residents. Northeastern's Christmas tree was voted as "People's Favorite Tree".
Earlier this month, staff decorated a NREMC truck to participate in the Whitley County Lighted Christmas Parade. This event is one of the many traditions Whitley County has to kick off the holiday season right after Thanksgiving. The parade ends with the arrival of Santa in downtown Columbia City.
The employees of Northeastern also adopted two families in their service area for Christmas. The staff collected more than $1500 to buy much needed gifts and clothing for two very deserving families. Staff surprised the families a few days before Christmas with wrapped gifts to place under their trees.
