COLUMBIA CITY, IN – Northeastern REMC is deploying four linemen to assist Cobb EMC in Georgia as Hurricane Helene intensifies and moves toward landfall. The storm, which could strengthen significantly as it approaches the southeastern U.S., is expected to cause widespread power outages and damage.
Following a call for mutual aid assistance from Cobb EMC, Northeastern REMC quickly responded by sending four linemen—Tyler Coffelt, Kendrick Oler, Todd Myers, and Devin Minier—who will leave today, Thursday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. from Clark County REMC to assist in the restoration efforts in Georgia.
Hurricane Helene's Expected Impact:
• Hurricane Helene has intensified to a Category 2 storm and is moving northward toward the Florida Gulf Coast, potentially strengthening to a Category 5 before landfall.
• The Atlanta area is bracing for tropical storm-force winds, heavy rain, lightning, and possible tornadoes as the storm moves through Georgia.
• Preparations are underway across the region as communities brace for power outages and severe weather conditions.
"We are proud to have a dedicated team ready to assist in these emergency situations," said Chris Todd, Director, Marketing and Communications at Northeastern REMC. "Our linemen are always prepared to lend a hand, ensuring that those affected by the storm will regain power as quickly and safely as possible."
Northeastern REMC's response is part of a broader effort among cooperatives across the country. Cooperation among cooperatives is a guiding principle that underscores the importance of mutual aid in times of crisis. By joining forces with Cobb EMC and other utilities, Northeastern REMC is proud to support communities as they prepare for and recover from the challenges brought by Hurricane Helene.
