Northeastern REMC will sponsor two students at the annual Camp Kilowatt on June 8-11, 2022. This camp will be held at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana. Students entering seventh grade in 2022 from all over Indiana will be attending after being selected by their local cooperative to participate in the four-day program. The students' schedule combines traditional outdoor camp activities with environmental education, electrical safety practices, and cooperative business education.
"Sending area youth to Camp Kilowatt has been a long-standing tradition of Northeastern. I'm excited that we can send kids again after a two-year break because of the pandemic," said Christopher Todd, Director of Marketing and Communications at Northeastern REMC. "I'm also attending as a chaperone for the first time, so I can't wait to see all of the fun activities they'll get to participate in," he added.
Students representing Northeastern REMC at Camp Kilowatt are:
Madeline Schroeder of Huntertown (Carroll Middle School )
Caleb Nicholson of Columbia City, (Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School)
On his application, Caleb Nicholson wrote, "I would like to learn more about the electric industry. Some day I would like to be a lineman. I love to climb! I want to know more about safety. I have never been to any camp, and Camp Kilowatt is a mixture of all the camp stuff I would enjoy."
The Camp Kilowatt program, formerly known as Touchstone Energy Camp, was developed by a committee of electric cooperative employees from Indiana. The camp is funded in part by Indiana's electric cooperatives, Hoosier Energy, Wabash Valley Power, Indiana Electric Cooperatives, and other industry partners.
