Northeastern REMC (NREMC) recently sponsored three local students at the annual Camp Kilowatt held at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana.
Students from all over Indiana attended the camp from June 5-8, representing their local electric cooperatives.
NREMC selected the following students who attended Camp Kilowatt this year:
Tenley Metzger, South Whitley
Ainsley Metzger, South Whitley
Caleb Metzger, South Whitley
NREMC selected these three students through an application process to attend the four-day program. The students had the opportunity to engage in traditional camping activities with environmental education, electrical safety practices, and cooperative business education.
Students were able to participate in various activities such as horseback riding, rock climbing, archery, and ziplining.
In addition to those activities, students were educated on electricity and witnessed a live line safety demonstration from the area electric cooperatives lineworkers. They were also given a chance to ride in a bucket truck with a lineworker to experience working in that role.
"This was a great way for students to learn about the role of the electric cooperative in their community. On top of that, they experienced all the fun of camp," said Christopher Todd, marketing director at NREMC.
Camp Kilowatt was created by a committee of electric cooperative employees from Indiana many years ago. Indiana's electric cooperative, Hoosier Energy, Wabash Valley Power Alliance, Indiana Electric Cooperatives, and other industry partners provide funding to the camp.
