Columbia City, IN – Earlier today, a large 40-foot spruce was cut down at Northeastern REMC in Columbia City to be donated for this year’s “Christmas on Broadway” celebration. In its 19th year, this event will take place on Friday, November 17, at Broadway Plaza outside of the Shine & Hardin building, with a tree lighting at 6:00 p.m.
Mudrack Tree service arrived this morning outside of Northeastern REMC headquarters, where the large spruce has slowly begun outgrowing its home in the curb divider of the entrance to Park 30, an industrial park just east of Columbia City. After attaching a strap to secure the tree, Mudrack Tree Service successfully cut down the tree and added it to a large trailer to transport it to Fort Wayne. The tree will arrive on Monday, November 13, and its arrival will be telecast live on 21Alive beginning at 5:00 a.m.
Jim Eitsert, Vice President of Engineering and Power Supply at Northeastern REMC, said, “It is an honor to donate the tree for this year’s celebration, in that it serves as the focal point of bringing so much happiness and holiday joy to thousands of residents across Northeast Indiana and the NREMC service area.”
This year, “Christmas on Broadway” will spotlight Erin’s House for Grieving Children, a nonprofit organization in Fort Wayne that provides support for children, teens, and families who have experienced loss. “Supporting an organization that does such important work in our community is very important to all of us,” said Eric Jung, President and CEO of Northeastern REMC. He continued, “Serving our community, not only at Christmas but throughout the year, is one of Northeastern’s guiding principles.”
Festivities surrounding the lighting of the Christmas tree begin at 5:30 p.m. on November 17, with the Concordia Lutheran High School Marching Band leading a parade down Broadway, followed by the arrival of Santa Claus.
