Each month, more than 1,300 Northeastern members like you choose to round up their electric bills to the next whole dollar to help nonprofit organizations in our communities as part of Operation Round Up. Recently, funding was awarded to the following organizations:
Community Harvest $1,000
Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana received funding to help provide groceries through the Farm Wagon, the pantry's mobile refrigerated trucks. These trucks allow them to distribute a substantial amount of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and other available healthy foods to low-income residents in Allen, Huntington, Noble, and Whitley Counties.
Lexi’s Voice $750
Funds will help children recovering from abuse participate in farm therapy. The program takes place at
Common Grounds Farm, home to a wide variety of rescued and re-homed animals. Like the participants, these
animals are often overcoming traumatic pasts. Therefore, the participants must help the animals overcome fears and anxieties that mirror their own in many ways.
Big Brothers Big Sisters $500
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, a youth mentoring program in our service area, received funding to help with recruiting, screening, and training adult volunteers who are paired with at-risk children through their School Buddies program. This program allows volunteers to spend the lunch period once a week one-on-one with a child at their elementary school during the school year and participate in a pen pal program over the summer.
Whitley County Dazzlers $500
The Whitley County Dazzlers are a special needs cheer/pom-pom squad that meets once a week at the Next Generation Dance Studio in Columbia City to learn cheerleading routines that incorporate motions, cheers, stunts, jumps, and gymnastics. This year new uniforms are needed along with funding for competition fees. Getting help from the community and other sources help offset the cost for the participating families.
